Michigan CPL Class in Carleton
The Michigan concealed pistol license class from Watchman Defense: one day, classroom plus live fire, and your certificate at the end of it.
Carrying a firearm is an important decision, and whose class you take makes a difference. Watchman Defense teaches the official US Concealed Carry Association Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals course in Carleton, Michigan.
In as little as one day you learn the basics of safe firearm handling and the legalities of concealed carry, and you are ready to apply for your concealed pistol license. Every class also includes practice drawing from the holster, which most CPL classes do not make time for.

Beginners welcome
This class works for people with limited experience. Working with new gun owners is the specialty here, and nobody gets singled out for asking a basic question.

One day, start to finish
Classroom instruction and the live fire range session happen in the same day. Certificates are handed out at the end.

Rental available
A rental pistol is available if you do not have your own, with ammunition included. Bring your own pistol and holster if you have them.

The legal use of force, reasonable force versus deadly force, reciprocity, and what happens during and after an encounter with law enforcement.

One on one coaching
On the range you get individual coaching on grip, stance and trigger control rather than a group demonstration.

03 Course outline
Topics covered in the CPL class
Introduction
Agenda, statistics and trends, expectations, schedule and breaks.
Self-defense firearm basics
Universal safety rules. Clearing a semi-automatic and clearing a revolver. Defining a gun’s action. Understanding revolvers, semi-automatics, modern striker-fired handguns and magazines. Selecting a handgun. Ammunition components, care and storage.
Defensive shooting fundamentals
Defensive shooting versus marksmanship. Proper grip and shooting platform. Aligning the muzzle to the target. Unsighted fire and point shooting. Flash sight picture, sighted fire and trigger control.
The legal use of force
Applying for your Michigan CPL. Defining the legal use of force, reasonable force and deadly force, and where one ends and the other begins. Deadly force rules with scenarios. What prosecutors will want to know. Defending the home and defending property. Michigan CPL reciprocity, encounters with law enforcement, and civil liability.
Violent encounters and their aftermath
Understanding fight or flight. The effects of adrenaline. Recognizing a threat, issuing commands and evaluating options. What happens during and after an arrest.
Gear and gadgets
Hip, paddle, pocket and inside-the-waistband holsters. Tactical flashlights. Gun safes and storage.
Basic and advanced skills
Creating a training program. Dry firing. Fundamental drills, a discussion of what comes next, and closing thoughts.
Testing and practical shooting
Take the visual test, grade it as a group and talk through why each answer is right or wrong. Then the range: fundamentals of marksmanship, aimed shooting, point shooting, safety fundamentals and drawing from the holster. Certificates are handed out at the end.
