About Watchman Defense
Taught by someone who explains the why
Todd Oja
USCCA Certified Concealed Carry and Home Defense Instructor
Todd is a clear communicator who puts people at ease. New shooters leave comfortable with their handgun, and shooters with experience come away with better core skills. Questions are welcome at any point in the day, and nobody gets singled out for being new.
His classes are built around Carleton and Monroe County, and every one of them includes practice drawing from the holster, which is not something most CPL classes make time for.
Watchman Defense is not posting its own dates at the moment. To ask about a Watchman Defense class, call us at (248) 662-5744.

Training the state accepts
Every class here meets the Michigan CPL training requirement. Your certificate is valid when you apply at the county clerk, and you get it the day you finish.

Beginners are the norm
Most students in these classes have little or no experience. You will be coached at your own pace, and nobody will make you feel behind.

Common questions
Questions students ask
Is this class state approved?
Yes. Every class listed here meets the Michigan CPL training requirements, and your certificate is valid for your application at the county clerk.
Do I need any experience?
No. Beginners are welcome and many students are shooting for the first time. You will be coached at your own pace, and questions are welcome at any point in the day.
How long does the class take?
One day. You cover the classroom material and the live fire range session in the same session.
Do I need my own gun?
Not usually. Most classes have a rental available and sell ammunition for the range portion. Check the class listing for details, or call us at (248) 662-5744 before you book.
What should I bring?
A valid state ID, closed-toe shoes, a pen and a good attitude. Bring your own pistol, holster and ammunition if you have them.
Does Watchman Defense have classes scheduled?
Not right now. The list above shows classes from other certified instructors in the Michigan network so you can still get your CPL. Call (248) 662-5744 if you want to be told when Todd posts new dates.
